Is Macintosh a better computer system to have for graphic design?

I'm a soon to be graphic design student. I'm newly enrolled at DeVry and the cles don't care which computer is used as long as you get the Adobe software suite. But I noticed at a community college all their cles are taught using Macintosh only. What is the difference? I need a new system so I need to decide which to get for my future goals.
